Fashionistas and style gurus the world over are set to flock to Singapore next May as the island plays host to one of the biggest catwalk shows in south-east Asia.

Unlike most high-profile displays of its kind, the Fashion Festival Singapore is open to the general public as well as industry insiders and style journalists.

Visitors can sample everything the event has to offer, from the buzzing catwalk shows to the stylish after-parties taking place in the popular Orchard Road clubs.

The festival, which is held in Ngee Ann City, is likely to feature the latest trends from world-famous designers such as Vivienne Westwood and French fashion house Christian Lacroix.

While this type of event will typically take place behind locked doors, the Singapore festival gives the paying public the chance to sample the glitz and glamour of the fashion world up close.

Meanwhile, for those who miss out on the chance to mix with the models and designers in the festival tent, a huge 16-foot-wide screen is put up outside to relay all the backstage action to crowds who gather in Orchard Road.
