Singapore Christmas celebrations are very eventful and widely celebrated as the country is home
to a diverse local population. Christmas celebrations in Singapore comprise all the traditional
activities and events such as home decoration, preparing delicious food, gift exchanging and a lot
more. Some of the main features of the Christmas celebrations in the island include musical
concerts, cultural programmes, art exhibitions and a special festival called ‘Christmas in the
tropics’.
‘Christmas in the tropics’ takes place in Singapore for a period of one month. The dazzling
festival enlivens the streets of Singapore with a carnival complemented by the all-year round
summer, balmy heat of the isle. During the festival shopping centres such as Takashimaya and Tangs
competitively put up illuminating decorations presenting visual panoply that is simply a feast for
the eyes. The attractive decorations seem to magically emerge from the ground level reaching
towards the rooftop. Other grand malls such as Orchard Central and Wisma Atria join in the
glamorous show as well.
It is during this time of the year that the city sees some lively performances of street
performers, especially on the streets of Orchard Road. Their feats of gravity defying acrobats
never fail to amaze the spectators who are also lured in by the angelical sounds of the carols sung
by Choirs of cherubic children. Santa impersonators trot through the streets interacting with the
crowd and posing for pictures with them. The great vibe of the festival is enhanced by the
colourful fashion shows that take place outdoors with regional and local models strutting across
the catwalks dressed in the season’s trendiest styles.
