Classical music fans could be in for a treat later this year when the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) plays at a special live concert in the city.

The ensemble will take to the stage at the Esplanade Theatre on the Bay on Saturday April 3rd for what promises to be an evening of top-notch music.

Led by conductor Lan Shui and joined by pianist Huseyin Sermet, the orchestra will get the show under way with a rendition of Chopin's Piano Concert No 2 in F minor.

The piece, written by Chopin throughout the autumn of 1829, delighted Warsaw audiences of the day and its charm and vitality continue to appeal today.

Among the other works to feature in the programme will be Dvorak's immortal New World Symphony, which remains one of the most popular symphony pieces.

Formed in 1979, the SSO boasts a line-up of 96 professional musicians and is based at the Esplanade Concert Hall.

However, the orchestra also plays at various other venues across Singapore and has toured countries including America, Germany, Japan, France, Turkey and China.
