The captivating Singapore Fashion Festival has over the years acquired the status of a
significant event in the island city. This vibrant festival has gained worldwide renown as an
enthralling fashion fiesta and has contributed to Singapore achieving the position of being amongst
the fashion hubs of the Southeast Asian region.
Initially held in 2001, the annual two week long extravaganza was envisaged as a means of
enhancing Singapore’s status as a significant leisure and shopping destination. Supported and
promoted by the Singapore Tourism Board, the festival has now become a major attraction in its own
right.
Fashion designers and catwalk models from across the globe take part in this mesmerizing
extravaganza. The world’s most acclaimed designers take this opportunity to present their finest
creations to an appreciative and style-conscious audience. Typically in excess of 30 global and
local brands are provided with the chance to display their products at this gala event. Amongst
these are designers and traders from Milan, Paris and New York.
The cosmopolitan audience is provided with the opportunity to view the glamorous models
taking to the catwalk just as they would in the fashion capitals of the world. Typically models
present vibrant, colourful and glamorous designs from the spring/summer collections of the
designers; however sometimes designs from their autumn/winter collections are also exhibited at the
fiesta.
The festival is usually held in a specially created massive tent, while those who were unable
to obtain tickets can still watch the proceedings on a large 16 foot screen placed outside the
tent. Unlike some other fashion festivals, the public is permitted to attend the runway shows
and celebrity parties.
