Deepavali, the most important festival in the Hindu calendar, will be celebrated in Singapore on Sunday October 26th.

The festival, which marks the triumph of good over evil and light over dark, will take place in Little India and last until November 2nd. The region will come alive with scores of oil lamps lit to thank gods for bestowing happiness, health, knowledge and wealth.

Temples and streets all over the district will also be decorated with streamers and dazzling lights, as a lively Countdown Concert heralds the commencement of festivities.

In addition, the Sri Veeramakaliamman, Sri Vadapathira Kaliamman and Sri Srinivasa Perumal temples will be decorated to welcome revellers to the event.

Meanwhile, Campbell Lane will be transformed into a bazaar for the festive period with a wide range of stalls where celebrants can purchase a variety of goods such as jewellery, vibrant Indian outfits, costumes, arts and crafts.

There will also be a smorgasbord of Indian culinary delights to satisfy the most insatiable of appetites.
