The Singapore River Festival is one of the city’s trendiest and most popular events, an
extravaganza of merry-making with great music, sensational performances, elegant fashion shows and
continuous partying. The fun is based on the four famous quays – Clarke Quay, Boat Quay, Empress
Place and Robertson Quay. A visitor count numbering nearly 300,000 guests underscores the
popularity of the event.
The Singapore River is highly significant in the history of Singapore and has witnessed the
development of its environs from a bustling trading centre to a major round-the-clock entertainment
hub providing excellent dining on the waterfront and a myriad of entertainment options. As the
major event featuring the historic river, the Singapore River Festival commemorates this
transformation with depictions of its history, albeit with a very modern perspective.
Typically a diverse array of exciting events await the visitor, from sensational water-based
and aerial displays, mesmerizing bumboat parades, interactive art installations and live
performances to jazz and wine festivals and attractive promotional offers.
In the past among the breathtaking sights visitors were able to enjoy dance and theatrical
productions as well as amazing aerial acrobatics with artistes suspended above the river. Meanwhile
the HiPPO River Show offered live music as it floated almost surreally along the river.
Past editions of the festival included features like a captivating water parade themed ‘
Singapore River Childhood Memories’ designed to evoke the atmosphere of growing up in the environs
of Singapore River in times past.
Always enthralling are the performances of the acclaimed Fireflies Dance Company which
presents a fusion of the components of music, dance and fire adding to the heady glamour of this
captivating event.
