Recognised for its focus on Asian cinema, the extravagant festival features an intriguing variety of entertainment, including a selection of world cinema. A significant event, the Singapore International Film Festival strives to uplift the profile of the local film industry. Driven by unwavering commitment to the development of film culture, the Singapore International Film Festival showcases a number of critically-acclaimed and award-winning films of all genres, screening over 200 films from over 40 countries. The films are divided into diverse sections, namely Singapore Panorama, Cinema Today, In Focus, Imagine, International Shorts and Seeing Music, Hearing Film. Shedding light on Asia’s upcoming talents, the spectacular event is studded with international film critics. Budding filmmakers and actors attend this festival, which invariably provides a platform for filmmakers to gain exposure to world markets. The festival’s main objective is to provide an opportunity for audiences to view a number of independent films; a majority of which are not released commercially. Creating an art landscape to promote film as an artistic medium, it has garnered favourable reviews for its groundbreaking excellence in Asian cinema and exceptional film programming. Encouraging Asian filmmakers with a series of workshops, seminars and exhibitions, the special programmes are spearheaded by film industry professionals, providing insights on the finer points of film-making. The highlight of the gala is its three awards categories, organised by the Silver Screen Awards.
In recognition of the remarkable talents of Singaporean and Asian filmmakers, the categories are
divided into Singapore Film Awards, Asian Film Competition, and Singapore Short Film Competition.
