News|Pongal in SingaporePongal is a four-day festival held every year between January 14th and 17th, with a series of spectacular events taking place across Singapore. The Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple, located in the Little India district, houses some of the most memorable celebrations, with locals serving up live music on drums and clarinets. As well as the range of cultural performances and displays on offer, the festival also provides plenty of opportunity to pick up a souvenir or two for loved ones back home. Throughout the four days, visitors can take a trip through the colourful Campbell Lane bazaar, which showcases a host of unique local handicrafts and gifts. Held to celebrate the harvest and mark the beginning of the month of Thai in the Hindu calendar, Pongal is celebrated at temples throughout Singapore. The festival could provide the ideal opportunity for travellers and holidaymakers to sample a taste of real local culture and religion during their stay in the area.
